Ballet plans to ‘open up doors’ with new prize for choreographers – The Sydney Morning Herald

The new artistic director at The Australian Ballet has invited the country’s dance creators to show him their “joy in dance”.

[The award] blows the horn, it sounds the alarm for people that arent necessarily of balletic technique but are of, I dont know, jazz, tap, hip-hop, improv, contact improv, whatever it may be, he says (Hallberg himself started in tap before switching to ballet). This is an opportunity for them to develop their work, produce a work, and potentially be recognised for that.
The shortlist of four will get $2500 to created a short dance piece, which will be judged by a panel including Hallberg. The winner…
