No further Victorian coronavirus cases linked to WA hotel outbreak, Perth and Peel classed as red zones

Victoria has not recorded any further COVID-19 cases linked to a man who contracted the virus in a Western Australian quarantine hotel.

Victoria last night declared the Perth and Peel regions in Western Australia red zones to respond to the hotel outbreak.

The man had been staying in the Mercure Hotel in Perth, where other guests had already contracted COVID-19 from returned travellers on the same floor.

After he was released from hotel quarantine on April 17, he spent time in Perth before travelling back to Melbourne on Wednesday.

He went straight to his home in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, then moved to Victoria’s hotel quarantine system at his request and later tested positive on Friday morning.
